INDUSTRY NEWS: New Name To Match Recognition Changes

Recognition Professionals International (RPI) is the new name of the National Association For Employee Recognition (NAER). The announcement of a new name for this organization was a welcome surprise at the recent Savannah conference. Recoginition Professionals International

The former name (NAER) reflected a national membership base and attention only on employee recognition. NAER is now RPI - Recognition Professionals International.

They are still an international non-profit association of employers existing to "study, develop and promote systems that enhance employee engagement and performance through employee recognition". But now they have a name that better reflects the ever-evolving global membership base and how the recognition needs of its members goes beyond employee recognition.



INDUSTRY NEWS: Online Incentive Council changes name

Incentive Magazine reports that Online Incentive Council, a strategic industry group of the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA), has announced it is changing its name.

The group now will be known as the Incentive Technology Council, as it moves it focus from just promoting the use of online incentives and recognition programs to making those programs better.

INDUSTRY TRENDS: Use gift cards as incentives to change workplace behavior

Gift cards as incentivesWhen a company uses incentives to change workplace behavior, the key is selecting something that will entice the target audience. The freedom of choice that comes with gift cards provides a built-in advantage.

When asked how they use gift cards, companies responding pointed to five key reasons:

  • 31% - Improve customer acquisitions and referrals
  • 24% - Increase customer satisfaction
  • 22% - Improve product quality
  • 21% - Motivate specific behaviors
  • 21% - Improve teamwork

In a separate poll, a survey of 518 Americans conducted by Comdata in February 2006 also revealed some interesting results on giving and receiving gift cards:
